4 (Four) Bad Habits You Need to Stop in 2023 (How to Stop Bad Habits.)

4 bad habits you need to stop in 2023

The Story

Picking out the half-inch stones, crispy pods, and bolus of sand that hid from the wrath of her thumb and index finger beneath the 4kg of legumes in the bowl, Kemi began recalling the steps Amina reiterated on the screen of the 42-inch LED LG TV during "The Cook," displayed 17hours ago at noon.

5 hours gone. Having drowned for a long, about 3kg and more increased in stature. "Wow! (She chuckled) Is this real?" It was her first attempt to use soya beans to prepare soya milk. Less than half a kg slipped off every persuasion to add to their mass.

"But wait o!"

"Why are some still small while others are bigger?" Kemi's face grinned in dismay.

"Na wow o!" She muttered in Pidgin English. Her eyelids wondered, leaving her mind to crave answers.

Growth is a necessity in becoming valuable and effective in all walks of life. Hence, ticking "bad habits" off your list of habits keeps you rolling on the street of growth and effectiveness. Bad habits are bad for your effectiveness & success

What are Bad Habits?

Bad habits are attitudes or activities that cripple our efforts or goals. They could be social, financial, personal, or spiritual. These are steroids to complacency/mediocrity.

In the above story, less than half a kg of soya beans experienced little or no growth while more than 3kg of the 4kg increased in mass. Loads of thoughts can litter the leaflets of your mind, in the quest to help Kemi unravel the mystery of nature but let me drive you off that page.

If those soya beans were humans, I will believe what obstructed those that didn't add to their mass were their habits (neglecting negative natural effects) while the others which did, braced healthy habits that facilitated their growth.

Paul captured my thought perfectly in the first mail he sent to the church at Corinth;

"Everything is permissible for me"--but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"--but I will not be mastered by anything."

(See 1Cor. 6:12)

A habit could be permitted, acceptable, or lawful but if it's not helpful to your growth, or works contrary to your goals and vision in life, don't be sorry to show it the exit. Just because everyone has that habit stuck in their to-do list doesn't mean it needs to be stuck in yours. This is where self-awareness and wisdom come into play.

Self-awareness is simply having a good knowledge of oneself, acknowledging your uniqueness, and understanding yourself while wisdom is applying the knowledge you've gained in making decisions about your life. These can be of help; What self-awareness is.

Solomon gave us this counsel;

"Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding." (See Prov. 4:6-7)

Some bad habits getting rid of is as moving a mountain. But with determination, wisdom, and discipline, success can still be achieved. Below are some habits to get rid of in 2022.

4 Bad Habits to Stop in 2023

1. Hanging in the Wrong Circle

When you always find yourself in the company of people who are always ready to trash every worthy idea, goal, or dream you have, you will need to be wise in your decisions because your growth needs your saving.

You can't grow in an environment that is growth-bug-infested and at call and beckon to demoralize you.

You need to be in circles that constructively criticize you because your growth matters. Be with people that encourage you and help you bring out the best in yourself.

2. Procrastination

Procrastination is a menace that lurks around one's mind and uses the excuse of overdue rest, multitasking, lack of planning, or laziness to surface. This is a habit that ranks high on the billboard of "time management topics." Here's How to Overcome Procrastination

3. Doubting Yourself

This habit has caused a lot of dreams, ideas, innovations, and potentials to slip off realization. The moment you let self-limiting beliefs take the throne in your mind, it empowers every negative thought that reduces your self-esteem. In reality, this cripples your productivity and effectiveness in life. Try out this, How to Overcome Self-Doubt.

4. Reiterating Regrets

Making "regret statements" ("I wish I never did this/that..." etc.) become cliché in your life, and stops your mind from picking out the lessons you are supposed to learn. When you keep repeating your regrets to your mind, it captures them and limits your belief system.

I came to adopt a personal statement especially when I make mistakes that I can't help myself stop sounding cliché.

"Let go. And let God." These statement has helped me see reasons to forge ahead and let go of past mistakes and even future fears. Truth is, therapy helps. But backing it with faith in the one who knows every of your thought and future, attracts growth nourishing lessons from the past, and hope for a greater future.

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland."

(See Isaiah 43: 18-19)

Quit reiterating regret statements and see how growth gets attracted to you. Replace those demeaning states with positive affirmations.

Here is an affirmation you can try.
